Class Descriptions and Schedule
CREATIVE MOVEMENT
(Ages 3 - 5 years)
This is a movement class where children will learn basic ballet and music skills. Students will learn ballet class etiquette and develop muscular memory. Technical vocabulary, tap, and tumbling will be included. 45 minute class
PRE-BALLET
(Ages 5 - 8 years)
Pre-Ballet will prepare students for Ballet I technique. Exercises will be introduced to strengthen the ankles, feet, back, stomach, and neck, and increase coordination. Time will be spent introducing center work and simple combinations. Students will develop spatial awareness and musical phrasing. Class meets one hour once a week.
BALLET I (Ages 7 - 10 years)
Ballet I allows the students to develop a larger vocabulary while introducing fifth position to barre and center work. Students will learn correct ballet posture and carriage as well as basic steps. Class meets one hour once a week.
BALLET II
(Ages 9 years and up)
Ballet II will continue to build on the technical foundation established in Ballet I, while introducing new and exciting steps and combinations at the barre and in the center.Students will be able to maintain turn out and correct posture throughout barre and center work. Basic use of the head (epaulement) will also be introduced. Ballet II prerequisite to Ballet III. Class meets one hour once a week.
BALLET III
(Ages 11 years and up)
Ballet III is an intermediate class. Students will be introduced to more advanced steps and combinations, as well as choreography. Students should have a working knowledge of vocabulary and positions in previous levels. Maximum turnout and correct posture should be maintained throughout barre and center work. Ballet III is a prerequisite to Ballet IV. Placement by teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour twice a week
BALLET IV
(Ages 12 years and up)
Ballet IV is a high intermediate class. Students will further increase vocabulary, as well as performance ability and poise. Placement by audition/teacher recommendation. Class meets 1.5 hours twice a week.
BALLET V
(Ages 13 and up)
Ballet V is an advanced technique class. Students will explore more advanced
movement and choreography. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation.
Class meets 1.5 hours twice a week
BEGINNER TEEN/ADULT BALLET
(Ages 13 and up)
Beginner Teen/Adult Ballet is a beginner class for teens and adults who have minimal ballet experience, but would like to improve technique and overall coordination. Students will learn basic movement and terminology as it relates to ballet. Students will learn presentation of the arms, head, and body while engaging turnout and maintaining correct placement and posture. This class is a “must” for those looking for technique and fitness in movement and dance.Class meets 1 hour once a week
BOYS BALLET
(Ages 12 and up)
Boys Ballet is a beginner/intermediate ballet class for boys who are looking to improve basic technique and further understanding in dance, as well as overall coordination. Students will learn basic movement and terminology as it relates to ballet. Students will learn presentation of the arms, head, and body while engaging turnout and maintaining correct placement and posture.
Class meets 1 hour once a week
POINTE I
(Pre-Pointe/Beginner - Ages 11 & older)
Pointe I is for those students who show strong foot/ankle development, and an
understanding of ballet technique. They will be introduced to pointe work facing the barre. Once students can perform combinations with correct posture, straight legs and strong ankles and feet, the combinations can be done sideways to the barre or in center. Students MUST have taken at least one year of ballet technique to be considered for this class. Students also must take a ballet technique class in conjunction with Pointe I. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.
POINTE II (Intermediate)
Pointe II is an intermediate class that will take the student to a more extensive
vocabulary of pointe work, while working on strength and coordination. This class will explore more work in the center. Placement by audition and /or teacher recommendation. Ballet class is required in order to take Pointe class. Class meets one hour once a week.
POINTE III (Advanced)
Pointe III is an advanced class for students who want to expand their pointe work to a professional level. Advanced combinations and variations will be a regular part of class. Ballet class is required in order to take Pointe class. Class meets one hour once a week.

CONTEMPORARY I
(Ages 6 - 9 years)
Contemporary I teaches basic contemporary and modern movement that strengthens the core of the dancer’s body which is required for any dance style. The class will focus on contractions, isolations, improvisation, and coordination. Class meets one hour once a week.
CONTEMPORARY II
(Ages 7 - 12 years)
Contemporary II will explore more movement and possibilities and choreography and is a prerequisite to Contemporary III. Class meets one hour once a week.
CONTEMPORARY III
(Ages 13 and up)
Contemporary III will is an intermediate level contemporary technique class. This class will explore L.A. style movement and begin to emphasize physical strength and intensify choreography. (Completion of this class does not automatically place student into Contemporary IV). Class meets one hour once a week.
CONTEMPORARY IV
(Ages 13 and up)
Contemporary IV is an exciting and challenging advanced class with more physical technique and choreography. Students will explore a wider range of motion as well as movement composition. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.
JAZZ I
(Ages 6 - 9 years)
Jazz I teaches the basics of jazz movement with contemporary and Broadway-style
music. Students learn isolations, stretches, across the floor jazz walks, turns and leaps.Class meets one hour once a week.
JAZZ II
(Ages 7 - 12 years)
Jazz II takes the dancer through more connecting movement while teaching more
technical jazz vocabulary. Prerequisite: Jazz I. Class meets one hour once a week.
JAZZ III
(Ages 11 and up)
Jazz III is an intermediate class. Students will learn to put movements together, learn new, exciting choreography, and expand their jazz vocabulary. Prerequisite: Jazz II and teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.
Jazz IV
(Ages 12 and up)
Jazz IV is an advanced class. Students will be expected to pick up advanced combinations and choreography quickly. Jazz vocabulary will be further expanded. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.
TAP I
(Ages 6 - 9 years)
Tap I focuses on rhythm and making “melodies” with the feet. This class will introduce rhythmic steps and tap vocabulary. Class meets one hour once a week.TAP II (Ages 7-12 years)
TAP II
A beginner/intermediate class. Students will explore more extensive center and across the floor work along with challenging choreography.Prerequisite: Tap I. Class meets one hour once a week.
TAP III
(Ages 11 and up)
Tap II is an intermediate/advanced class. Students will explore more difficult steps, and execute challenging choreography. Prerequisite: Tap II and teacher recommendation.Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week.
ADVANCED TAP
This class is centered on rhythmic tap. Students will be challenged both technically and artistically. This class will be fast-paced and students will be expected to pick up combinations and choreography quickly. Prerequisite: Tap III and teacher recommendation. Placement by audition and/or teacher recommendation. Class meets one hour once a week
HIP HOP
Hip-Hop is a streetwise style of dance that combines jazz, modern and African
technique. These classes will promote a unique and exuberant style of movement while developing strength and stamina
HIP HOP I
(Ages 8-12)
Hip Hop I is centered on urban styles of movement, influenced by latest street dance. Students will explore choreography and exercises that incorporate hard hitting beats and accenting music in a rhythmic way. Students will improve musicality, muscle coordination, and muscle memory. Class meets one hour once a week.
HIP HOP II
(Ages 13 & up)
Hip Hop II will explore a variety of urban dance styles. Students will be challenged physically and mentally as they build musicality, rhythm, muscle coordination, and muscle memory. Students will have the opportunity to learn the latest hip hop moves and steps in across the floor exercises and combinations. Class meets one hour once a week.
BROADWAY DANCE I
(Ages 8-12)
Broadway Dance I will explore the dance styles that were made famous in many of
Broadway’s big musicals. All dance forms will be combined to make this a very popular and memorable class. Class meets one hour once a week
BROADWAY II
(Ages 13 – Adult)
Broadway Dance II, like Broadway I, will incorporate many dance styles from Broadwaymusicals, yet will include more of the advanced choreography. Class meets one hour once a week
MUSICAL THEATER I
(Ages 8 – 12)
This theater class will explore the role of the “triple threat “ performer. Time will be given to how acting, dance, and singing combine to make an unbeatable combination. A Broadway Musical will be chosen for performance. It is recommended that the student take a dance class. Class meets one hour once a week.
MUSICAL THEATER II
(Ages 13 - Adult)
See course description under Musical Theater I. Class meets two hours once a week.
ADVANCED THEATER GROUP
(Audition only)
This class is for the serious actor. Time will be spent exploring various advanced techniques to the art of acting. The class will prepare a stage performance for the end of the year and possible tour during the summer. PTG will take theater outside the walls of the institution and bring excellence and exceptionalism to the community. Dedication to the class and project is required. Class meets for 2 hours.
VOICE
All our vocal lessons at Field of Dreams are group lesson. Each individual will learn the value of proper breathing, proper posture, and proper vocal placement. These classes will give the student a great foundation to build strong vocals and vocal performance. Each class meets one hour once a week.
